SVSU Piano Day Nov. 13th, 2021

Piano Day is an event designed to broaden the knowledge and inspire young pianists in our community through masterclass, lecture, and recital. The event is hosted by member (s) of the SVSU piano faculty, and it features a guest artist. Invited participants will perform in the masterclass and attend the lecture followed by a discussion forum. It will conclude with a recital performed by the guest artist and the host SVSU faculty member.

Our guest artist this year is Dr. Wan-Chin Chang, a faculty member at Soka University (CA), MiraCosta College (CA), and the Piano Department Chair at Blue Lake Arts Camp (MI). 

Eligibility

Masterclass: All junior high, high school, college aged pianists are welcomed to register. Featured guest artist Dr. Wan-Chin Chang and SVSU piano faculty Dr. Chia-Ying Chan will conduct the masterclass for the 2021 SVSU Piano Day. Participants will perform on stage, and the master teachers will offer feedbacks. Auditing is available to the public. *

Lecture: All participants are invited to attend the lecture. The theme for this year is “Inspirations”. There will be a short Q & A session immediately following the lecture.

Recital: This event is opened to the public.*

*Open to the general public: the suggested audience age is 8 years or older.

11:30 -12:45 Check in/ Lunch with Artist guest and SVSU Faculty at Doan Center (Marketplace)

1:00-3:00 Welcome/ Masterclass. Rhea Miller Recital Hall

3:30-4:30 Lecture: Inspiration-musical inspirations and influences. Rhea Miller Recital Hall

4:30-4:45 Q &A session. Rhea Miller Recital Hall

5:30-6:30 Recital. Rhea Miller Recital Hall

We are very happy to announce that a Scholarship Representative from Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp will present on Piano Day. Students who would like to be considered for the Blue Lake scholarship recipient, would be able to participate the scholarship audition on Piano Day at SVSU. The audition will take place at A102 from 2:30. More audition related information will be sent through email.
